The slide fits and locks into place but it won't work. The front frame rails on the 23 frame are too far forward for the short slide of the 26/27/33 and the slide hits the rails before finishing it's full movement backwards. If the extractor was removed you should be able to see into the frame and tell if the firing pin safety has slipped down.
